Parent involvement in behavior sessions are crucial! Learners are more likely to reach behavioral and skill goals when their parents are involved because it allows the learner more opportunities to practice. Here are five ways to increase positive behaviors in your learner with parent involvement.
-
Asking, “How was session?” This open-ended question will allow the therapist to summarize session highlights.
-
Implementing strategies your LBC team is using during session! This will allow you to reinforce appropriate behaviors and the opportunity to use antecedent and reactive strategies.
-
Working on skill sets outside of session. For example, if your learner is learning how to tie shoes in session, allow your learner to practice tying shoes outside of session as well. More practice can help your learner reach goals faster!
-
Taking Data! Do you have a question about a behavior? Observe what happens directly before the behavior and directly after. This will allow your BCBA to identify behavior functions and help you strategize about what to do next time.
-
Weekly to biweekly check ins with your BCBA! This will allow your BCBA to know what is happening in the home and community outside of session.
